Nitrogen (N2)

Nitrogen makes up 78% of the Earth’s atmosphere and is a component of all living tissues.

Details about Nitrogen: 

  • Chemical formula: N2
  • Purity: ≥99.9%
  • It is colorless, odorless, tasteless, chemically inert under ordinary conditions, non-toxic and non-flammable

Liquid nitrogen is used:

  • For freezing and transporting certain more delicate foods
  • To store biological materials such as tissues, cells, etc.
  • In dermatology for the removal of diseased tissues
  • In the study of cryogenics
  • In scientific research

Nitrogen gas is used:

  • In the food industry for modified atmosphere packaging, in combination with carbon dioxide
  • In the production and processing of metals
  • As a protective atmosphere for many industrial processes
  • In the production of electronic components such as transistors, diodes and integrated circuits
  • For filling the wheel chambers of airplanes and cars
  • For the manufacture of ammonia
  • At Fire extinguishing systems – Fire suppression is achieved by reducing the oxygen concentration
  • In the chemical industry, for the production of fertilizers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives.
